Answers to Commonly Asked 602 and 604 Engine Questions

Q: How often should i change my valve springs?

A: For 604 valve springs we recommend changing valve springs every 18-20 nights. For 602's we recommend every 7 nights.

Q: How do i adjust my fuel pressure?

A: Fuel pressure should be adjusted on the regulator at 3500 rpms, do not adjust at idle.

Q: How do i adjust the timing on my engine?

A: Adjusting the timing requires a timing light. Adjust with the wire clamped onto #1 Spark plug wire. Flash the timing light on the balancer on the driver side of the engine where the timing pointer is. Timing should always be adjusted at at least 3500 rpm's. If timing is still moving after 3500 then keep going until the line on the balancer stops moving. Loosen the clamp on the distributor and turn the distributor to where the 34* mark lines up with the timing pointer. If using an  advance timing light have the dial at 0 on the timing light for this method. If you turn the dial to 34 on the timing light then adjust it at 0 on the balancer. Do not put 34 on the dial and 34 on the balancer.

Q: How do i adjust the valves on my 602 or 604?

A: We always recommend adjusting the valves based off of the TDC method. Bring the engine up to TDC on the compression stroke. Start with cylinder #1. With the Poly Locks loose, use one hand to feel the push rod to 0 valve lash. 0 valve lash is when you're tightening the poly lock and just start to feel drag on the push rod. Adjust valve to 1/2 turn after 0 valve lash on both exhaust and intake. After cylinder number 1 you turn the balancer 1/4 turn and do the next cylinder in the firing order until all 8 are done. Firing order on both are 18436572.
